| Business valuations are performed for a variety of reasons. During the life of a business, valuations may be required as a result of shareholder buy-in or buy-out; gifts of closely-held corporate stock to family members; dividing assets in marital dissolution and estate asset valuation upon the death of an owner. Each of the key events that trigger the need for valuation can result in a different value for an enterprise depending on the purpose of the valuation and the proper application of valuation theory and case law.
